If you are experiencing a drastic hair fall and you believe that you might go bald, always consult a dermatologist before you decide to opt for a surgical transplant. At times the problem isn’t as big as we think it is and a few surgeons are willing to take the risk of making you go through a surgery only because you are paying a lot for it. Therefore, going to trustworthy doctors who give you honest advice is essential.
Most people take a good thick head of hair for granted. But once it’s gone, then they realize what they have lost. Well, luckily, technological advancements can help you as surgical hair transplants are now possible and provide a simple solution.
In simple terms, hair transplant is a surgical process which involves removing a narrow strip of hair-bearing scalp from the donor side (mostly back of the head) and then it is placed on area where there is absolutely no or less hair.
Mostly, these operations take place in the surgeon’s office with a local anaesthesia.
At first the surgeon takes out time to fully clean the scalp. This is done so there are absolutely no hurdles throughout the procedure. After this, the anaesthesia is used to numb the area where the surgeon is going to use needles and knives. After taking the necessary strip of hair, the surgeon then sews back the area from where he took the strip. This area is soon covered with the help of the hair around it.
After this, the surgeon divides the strip of removed scalp into tiny grafts (500 to 2000) and they all contain individual hair. At times these grafts even carry individual hair each. The number or even type of grafts which the surgeon uses directly depends on the size, quality, type and even colour of hair.
Once these grafts are prepared, the surgeon uses the local anaesthesia once again. This time he numbs the area where the grafts will be places; which means that part of your scalp where there are less or no hairs.
The surgeon then punctures the scalp and makes holes in it. Once these holes are made, they are filled by these grafts that he created in the previous step.
This whole procedure takes approximately four to eight hours, depending upon the size of the scalp that needs to be covered and different hurdles which the surgeon might face throughout the process.
