Are you seeking simple and effective ways to stop and reverse hair loss? Luckily, you have come to the right place. In this article, we will share with you 10 easy steps to fix hair loss. Follow these steps and regain a fuller and thicker head of hair within a couple of months.
Change your hairstyle:
Over-styling is one of the most common causes of localized hair loss. If you are losing hair in specific areas of the scalp, your hairstyle most probably needs to be changed. Certain hair accessories as well have been found to cause hair breakage, while damaging the hair follicles. Do not wear hairpins, clips, and rubber bands that you fee are pulling your hair tightly. Also refrain from hairstyles that require hair strands to be tightly pulled, such as cornrows, dreadlocks, and tight braids. Furthermore, avoid wearing one hairstyle for longer periods; instead, keep changing the position of your hair every few months.
Limit Brushing your Hair:
While brushing is good for the health of your hair, as it activates dormant hair follicles, excessive brushing can damage your hair strands as well as follicles. The old myth of brushing hair 100 times daily before sleeping is just a myth and does not bear any scientific support. Brushing your hair this much can damage your strands ultimately causing them to break off. If your hairs are thin and brittle, and you know you brush them excessively, try limiting your hair brushing frequency and you will notice a significant improvement in the health and texture of your hair.
Increase your Iron Intake:
Anemic people tend to shed more hair. Anemia is a medical condition in which your body lacks iron – a mineral essential for hair growth. Blood tests can help you check iron levels in your body. If you are iron deficient, you can easily fix hair loss by increasing your iron intake. Natural sources of iron include red meat, oyster, fish, clams, nuts, beans, pumpkin seeds, and all green leafy vegetables, such as spinach and kale. If you think you are not getting enough iron from the diet, you can always take iron supplements but only after discussing it with your doctor.
Get your Hair & Scalp Analyzed:
There are several skin infections as well that can cause hair to fall out. If you are shedding hair for no apparent reason, better get your scalp analyzed by some dermatologist. The physician will ask you several questions including your family history and medical history to determine the exact cause of hair loss. Without knowing the exact cause of the problem, it is near impossible to stop hair loss, leave aside reversing its symptoms.
Let Your Hair Air Dry
Wet hairs are several time more delicate and flimsy than dry hairs. So, always handle wet hair very carefully. The heat from blow-drying has been found to be the biggest culprit behind frizzy, fragile hair. Researchers have warned that heat from blow dryers is extremely damaging for human hair, cautioning that frequent blow-drying makes hair susceptible to breakage. Therefore, it is highly recommended to let your hair air dry. And even when necessary, hold the blow dryer away from your hair. Also, avoid rubbing or brushing wet hair vigorously. In fact, avoid brushing your hair while they are wet.
Take Biotin Supplements:
Biotin is an essential B vitamin that is necessary for the health and growth of your hair. If you are not getting enough biotin, you may start losing hair for no apparent reason. Scientific research has shown that intake of biotin supplements not only helps prevent hair loss but also helps regrow hair in most cases. Discuss with your doctor if you think you are not getting enough biotin. He or she will recommend you a few blood tests to determine if you really are biotin deficient or not. Only after assessing your symptoms and going through the test reports, he will recommend you biotin supplements.
Increase your Protein Intake:
Your hair strands are mostly comprised of protein. So if you want your hair to be silky smooth and healthy, simply increase your protein intake. The best way to increase your protein intake is through natural sources. Foods rich in protein include lean meat, milk, eggs, fish, and other skimmed dairy products. Non-meat sources of protein include nuts, seeds, beans, and legumes.
Shampoo less:
There is a common misconception that shampooing hair more keeps them smooth and silky. While apparently it does, but excessive shampooing deprives your hair of its natural oils, thereby making your hair dry, brittle, and more prone to breakage.
Switch to Products with Gentler Ingredients
Sometimes using harsh products is the reason behind damaged hair. If you frequently dye your hair or use over the counter serums to curl or straighten them, your hair may become rough and thin. Experts even suggest avoiding everyday hair products like gels and hairsprays as they also dry out the hair, causing them to break easily. If necessary use natural products for hairstyling.
Get Regular Trims
If your hair thinning is because of damaged hair, prone to breakage, getting regular trims may help. Everybody has a maximum hair length. When your hairs cross that limit they start becoming weak and brittle. “Split-ends” is one obvious sign that your hair has reached its maximum length. However, regular haircuts or at least slight trimming can help you with healthy hair growth.
Free Consultation
If you have suffered from significant hair loss, hair transplant surgery may be worth considering. The procedure involves transplanting your own healthy hair from balding resistant areas into the areas showing hair thinning signs.
