Steps To Prevent Forehead Swelling After Hair Transplant

While there is no such technique like “painless hair transplant”, the two hair restoration procedures that guarantee minimal pain and discomfort include Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Stem Cell FUE aka Direct Automated FUE. Both these techniques extract hair follicles individually without needing to remove a linear strip of skin, with the only difference being the former involves manual extraction while the latter involves automatic extraction of grafts using a specially designed punch machine. If you want to know more about these modern hair restoration techniques, continue reading.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a more sophisticated hair transplant technique as compared to the conventional strip method transplant, as the former gives more natural looking results without involving a lot of bleeding and scarring. FUE transplant involves extracting individual hair follicles from the donor area (the back or sides of the scalp) using a specially designed small cylindrical punch tool with a diameter less than 1 mm. Your surgeon will extract grafts one by one and store them in an artificial environment, like saline solution, to keep them alive even outside the body.
Once sufficient number of grafts has been removed, the surgeon will proceed to site preparation, which involves making micro-sized holes in the recipient area at different angles. The grafts are then carefully placed in these holes. Since there is no cutting of linear strip involved, there will be no stitches, no bandage and no telltale scarring on the donor area. This also ensures minimal pain and quick recovery – a downtime of 2 to 3 days as compared a week’s downtime in case of Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT).
Stem Cell FUE is the latest innovation in the Follicular Unit Extraction in which a specially designed punch machine is used for extracting donor hair follicles at a much faster speed than a conventional FUE. While a typical FUE Hair Transplant allows the surgeon to implant 1500 to 2000 grafts in a session, Stem Cell FUE allows implantation of up to 4000 grafts in a single session. Besides high speed of harvesting, Stem Cell FUE guarantees a 100% success rate with no graft transection – damage to grafts during extraction.
The best thing about this latest hair transplant technique is that it does not curb hair regrowth in the donor area. Patients who have undergone Stem Cell FUE have reported regeneration of up to 50 percent hair in the donor area during the first three months following the transplant. Also, shock loss in case of Direct Automated FUE is minimal as there will be no trauma caused to the scalp during graft extraction.
