How Hair Transplant is Done

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure which involves extracting hair from the baldness resistant areas and implanting them to the bald areas. Usually the hair is extracted from back and sides of the scalp and implanted to the frontal area or the crown area. Genetics are regarded as the main culprit behind hair loss. Other reasons might include stress, illness, medications and crash diets. Usually hair transplant in Sharjah constitutes two major types; Follicular Unit Transplant commonly known as strip removal method and Follicular Unit Extraction, commonly known as FUE hair transplant.  Hair transplant in Sharjah is ideal permanent solution for hair loss and baldness. It is perfect for candidates suffering from:

  • Individuals suffering from male pattern baldness
  • Women suffering from female pattern baldness
  • Anyone who had lost hair as a result of chemotherapy or any other disease
  • Men and women suffering from thinning hair

What happens during a hair transplant procedure?

Initially, the surgeon will clean your scalp properly. After that the surgeon will numb your scalp using a needle. After that your donor hair is trimmed to the desired length. After that grafts are extracted based on one or the other technique. The grafts are extracted individually from the donor area or extracted in the form of a strip depending upon the procedure. If strip is extracted from the scalp, stitches are applied afterwards. In FUE hair transplant, no stitches are required. Tiny incisions are made in the recipient’s area and grafts are implanted.

What happens after hair transplant in Sharjah?

Your scalp will be tender and sore for a few hours following after the surgery. You will most likely be prescribed pain killers and anti-biotics for minimizing your pain and preventing any unwanted infections.  Anti inflammatory medications are also prescribed by doctors to keep the swelling at minimum. You will be required to restrain from any strenuous activities. Most people are able to return to work after three days to about two weeks after the surgery depending upon the technique used for hair transplantation.

What are some side effects of hair transplant?

There are no significant side effects if the surgery is performed by highly expert and skilled surgeons in a reputed hair clinic in Sharjah. However, there are some side effects faced by many individuals.  They are all temporary and will eventually fade away in a weak or two. They include:

  • Bleeding (common in FUT hair transplant)
  • Infection (if anti-biotics are not taken)
  • Swelling of the scalp
  • Swelling and bruising around eye area
  • Crust on the areas of the scalp from where grafts are extracted or implanted
  • Numbness of the scalp
  • Itching on the scalp
  • Shock loss (can be minimized using other non surgical therapies in combination with hair transplant)

Long term outlook on hair transplant

The people who have undergone hair transplant will continue to grow hair on these areas for life time. The density of hair varies depending upon

  • Laxity of the scalp
  • Density of newly transplanted hair follicles
  • Quality of hair
  • Texture of hair (Curly hair will look more dense then straight hair)

If you go for other means of hair growth other than hair transplant like laser therapy, non surgical therapies such as prp therapy or ACell therapy, you may continue to shed hair later in life. It is important to have an in-depth consultation with your surgeon so you can settle on the outcome of the surgery and keep realistic expectations.
