While finding clumps of lost hair in the drain or under the pillow are immediate signs of developing a hair loss conditions, losing in a limited quantity is not a problem as that shedding is part of the natural hair growth cycles.

When you wash your hair under the shower or get a hair massage, you may experience hair fall. These are the strands that are already disconnected from the hair follicles and you don’t need to worry as this can be normal shedding.

How much hair loss is normal in a day?

According to most of the trichologists around the world, losing from 50 to 100 strands a day is considered normal. The people who carry longer strands may experience a bit more hair loss. From 100,000 or more hair follicles on the scalp, losing few strands a day is not a big deal, as it does not make any difference in the outlook.

Comparing hair loss in men and women

Since women keep longer strands, they lose more hair a day than women. The reasons to more hair loss in women can be daily styling with heating tools, frequent bleaching and coloring of hair and daily application of different chemical products.

Cycles of hair growth

Hair grows and sheds in three phases, the nutrition, stress, underlying conditions, styling and hygiene play important role in regulating or altering the natural growth cycles of a hair.

The initial phase where the hair grows out from the hair follicle and keeps on growing for 2-5 years is the anagen phase. In this phase, the hair grows about 1cm after every 30 days.

When your hair stops growing either naturally or due to any of the other reasons, the hair moves towards the catagen or resting phase, where it stays for about 20-40 days. In this phase, the blood supply to hair gets shorter with time and ultimately stops at a point.

The last phase is the Telogen phase, also called as shedding phase. Hair in this phase gets disconnected from the hair follicle and sheds off. Almost 9-10% of hair stay always remain in this phase which cause normal hair shedding. But this is normal as the new hair takes the place of the older hair.

However, in the case you are losing more than usual hair, there is a clear indication that you either are developing or already have developed a hair loss condition. A non-invasive hair loss treatment like PRP or Mesotherapy is carried to sort out such hair loss concerns.

Finding out the triggers for hair loss conditions

There can be many different reasons that could induce hair loss conditions in men and women. Genetics, hormonal disorders, unhealthy diets, underlying medical conditions, bad hair caring routine and over styling may lead to a number of hair loss issues in men and women.
