Ex-boxing champ Derry Mathews shows off new ‘Rooney’ hair transplant

Derry Mathews is a former boxing champion and he has followed the footsteps of Rooney, to get a hair transplant. Because he started losing his hair at the age of 25.

33 year old former British and Commonwealth lightweight champion got retirement from boxing after his defeat to Ohara Davies in March.

Due to the problem of hair loss, he was called “slap head” for at least 8 years. Now Derry has a new look after getting a hair transplant. 5000 hair follicles were extracted from the donor area or from the back side of the head and implanted in the top region of his head.

The hair transplant surgery took 14 hours to be completed and was performed in late April. After 2 weeks, he needed to get a haircut, because the results were very rapid. It can be seen through his statement, saying that:

“In the past two weeks I’ve even had to get my hair cut, I wasn’t expecting to see results so soon.”

The cost of a hair transplant treatment depends on the number of hair follicles.According to Derry, he planned to get a hair transplant done about 18 months ago but it wasn’t the right time due to the training session. But after the training session, he finally had a hair transplant, as he said that:

“I had planned to get the transplant done about 18 months ago but with training, it just wasn’t the right time.

I’m so glad I have finally decided to do it.”

Mathews said that he started losing his hair at the age of 25 when he met his wife Michelle.

He showed the understanding personality of his wife, saying that:

“My hairline has never annoyed Michelle, I don’t even think she really wanted me to have it done.

I think she’s just worried I’ll start using her shampoo.”

The former Liverpool star, Didi Hamann also undergone from the hair transplant procedure.
