Types and Causes of Hair Loss in Males

Class I

This category represents the naturally full hair that are observed in most people in their teens. There is no hair fall observed in this class.

Class II

This is the initial phase of hair loss where some hair have been lost. There is thinning in the front areas around the temple. However, it is not classified as baldness.

Class III

A person goes through deep hair loss in the temporal region. This is the start of baldness in men.

Class III Vertex

It is similar to the Class III except there is also hair loss in the crown area. This is the initial hair loss phase in the mid of the head.

Class IV

There is further hair loss in the frontal areas as well as in the crown area of the head. However, there are still strong strips of hair in between the two. Normally hair loss in this state becomes fairly apparent.

Class V

The hair separating the crown and the front of the hair start dwindling. There is a further increase in hair in the front as well as the crown area.

Class VI

The volume of the hair in the sides and the back of the head is still strong but the bridge of hair between the crown and front is more or less gone. There is severe balding overall.

Class VII

Most of the head is bald with hair remaining mainly in the back and sides of the head. These too are somewhat lighter than the previous class.
