beard-transplant

It seems like beards are everywhere these days. Regardless of which celebrity is sporting some new scruff, or which models are featuring the facial fuzz, it seems like the beard trend is here to stay.

If you’re trying to find a way to get your facial hair to cooperate with your goals and grow out immensely, then we understand your despair!

There’s nothing more frustrating than trying new remedies every day, waiting for what feels like an eternity to see barely any progress.

The Genetics of Facial Hair:

Some guys may seem to have it all in the beard department, but if you didn’t luck out on the hair gene then don’t worry. First, let’s dive into what makes your hair grow naturally in the first place.

You are born with hair follicles all over your body, including your face, hair sprout from those follicles as you age. The hair follicles on your face are the last ones to be activated, and this usually occurs when you hit puberty.

Structure of these hair follicles has everything to do with how quickly your facial hair grows.

Chances are if your father has a bushy beard then you can expect to have the same.

Hormones

So how exactly do genes effect your beard? It all comes down to your testosterones, specifically dihydrotestosterone (DHT). As regular testosterone is converted to the more potent androgen hormone DHT.  The quantity of DHT you have in your reproductive system and how your body reacts to the hormone can directly affect your beard and hair growth pattern.

Men with higher levels of testosterone and DHT will have significantly more facial hair. If you are genetically prone to be sensitive to these hormones, you may grow a beard at an earlier age than others.

But wait! Have you ever wondered why guys with thick bushy beards tend to be bald or balding? Increased levels of DHT can lead to a strong, bushy beard, but sensitivity to the hormone can actually lead to accelerated genetic baldness. Yes, the same chemical that can benefit your beard growth can make you lose the hair up top.

On the bright side, guys with lower levels of testosterone have a better chance of keeping their head hair. Just because you have a patchy beard, doesn’t necessarily mean you have low testosterone levels. If your body is less sensitive to the effects of DHT, you will see slower beard and body hair growth patterns.

Stress

Stress can have a huge impact on overall body function, including the growth of your beard.

If your facial hair grow slower or you notice sudden bald spots appearing in your beard region, then it is possible that you are going through a period of high stress for some time now. Best you can do is to try and avoid stressful situations as much as you can and talking to a professional or close friend to manage stress as much as possible.

Age

Age can also be one of the important factors that determine your beard’s growth. As every man is different and so are their beards. Some may have their beard fully developed in their early 20s, while others may have to wait till their 30s for the beard to finally come in.

Growing a beard is a never-ending process that requires a lot of patience and care. So, if your beard isn’t growing right now, be patient, give it a little time and work with what you’ve got at the moment.

Health Conditions

Certain medical conditions can also affect your facial hair’s growth. Some of them are alopecia, anemia, and hypothyroidism.

Alopecia is an autoimmune disorder that causes your immune system to attack your hair follicles which causes them to shrink, making the hair strands fall off. Although this condition won’t cause any permanent damage, it must be treated the right way. In most cases of Alopecia Areata, hair grows back within 2-6 months.

Both anemia and hypothyroidism cause hair to grow slow. Hypothyroidism can be managed with medications, while anemia can be treated with infusions or supplements.

If you doubt that the reason why you can’t grow a beard is due to some medical condition, you must consult your doctor and dermatologist as it may require medical intervention.

Beard Transplantation:

Lastly, if you are unable to grow a beard and you have tried what you could, then you can always consider getting a beard hair transplant.

The procedure of beard transplant is almost the same as a traditional scalp hair transplant. Hair follicles are taken from your scalp area and transplanted onto the beard region. The procedure of beard hair transplant is simple and effective but you have to be a suitable candidate to undergo it.
