Common Hair Transplant Misconceptions

Misconceptions

There are plenty of misconceptions that are associated with hair transplant surgeries. Many people believe them and unfortunately decide against getting their hair restored. In the following lines, we shall discuss some of these common misconceptions and how they are incorrect.

[su_box title=”Transplanted Hair Will Fall” box_color=”#e95b37″]Many people believe that the transplanted hair will fall away like normal hair after a while. This is not true since the hair are taken from areas that are resistant to the ill effects of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone which is the primary cause of hair loss. These hair resist DHT in their new locations as well so they do not undergo further loss.[/su_box]

[su_box title=”I Will Have Visible Scarring” box_color=”#e95b37″]Some scarring is almost always left after a hair transplant because of its invasive nature. However, it generally is not visible to the naked eye. In strip method, the most invasive of current methods, a strip of scalp is removed from the back of the head and later the area is sutured. The scar is well camouflaged by hair once they grow out again. The pinhole scars from Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) are also nearly invisible.[/su_box]

[su_box title=”My Hair will Look Odd” box_color=”#e95b37″]The hair should not look odd because they do not grow overnight. The hair start to appear in about three months and take about a whole year to grow out. Since it is a gradual process, people get used to the new look by the time hair grow out to full length.[/su_box]

[su_box title=”Baby Shampoo Causes Hair Loss in Transplanted Hair” box_color=”#e95b37″]Many transplant surgeons suggest the use of baby shampoo after the transplant. Many people when shampooing find hair coming out of their scalp. They believe that the baby shampoo has undone the transplant. In reality, this is just shedding which takes place sooner or later in the newly transplanted follicles. This allows newer and stronger hair to come out.[/su_box]

[su_box title=”Hair Transplants Accelerate Hair Loss” box_color=”#e95b37″]This is another very common misconception. People will have hair loss in hair that are not transplanted. Often this natural hair loss is attributed to a transplant procedure. Before going under the knife, it is always important to discuss future hair loss in other areas of the scalp with the surgeon. The pattern of this hair loss too is important since it can dictate how the transplant is carried out.[/su_box]
