hair transplant after care

So you have finally decided to go under the knife to restore a fuller head of hair? We appreciate your decision! But just getting a hair transplant surgery is not enough to get your desired hair thickness. The results of your surgery depend greatly on post-operative care. The better you take care of your freshly transplanted head, the better the results will be.

Here are 5 Important Tips for Hair Transplant Recovery. Keep them in your mind and follow as well to make sure your expensive surgery turns out to be a huge success.

  1. Keep Your Head Elevated:

Immediately after the surgery your scalp will be a little swollen. To avoid any extra swelling keep your head elevated at an angle of 45 degrees for at least two days. Ideally sit and sleep in a reclining chair, but if you find it very uncomfortable to sleep in, or you don’t have one, sleep on two or more pillows to achieve desired elevation.

  1. Take Care Of Your Scar:

No matter how skilled and experienced your surgeon is, a certain degree of scarring is inevitable after a hair transplant surgery. As you wait for the wounds to heal and the transplanted follicles to attach themselves to the blood supply, make sure you take prescription medications to reduce swelling and speed up healing process. This will also help reduce irritation and inflammation, minimizing chances of permanent scarring.

  1. Avoid Physical Activity:

This is the must-follow tip! Avoid all such physical activities that may cause you to sweat. Sweating increases the risk of infection, thereby affecting your recovery process and the ultimate outcome big time. Also, avoid exposing your scalp to direct sunlight for at least a month. Avoid saunas bath for the same very reason.

  1. Say No To Smoking And Alcohol:

Both smoking and alcohol are a strict no-no before and after surgery, and the hair transplant is no different. Cigarettes contain nicotine, which hampers your blood’s oxygen-carrying ability, thus affecting the healing process and healthy growth of newly transplanted hair follicles. Alcohol also plays a similar role and should be avoided for the same reason. Also, avoid consuming spicy foods. Your body to spicy foods can interfere with the healing process.

  1. General Care:

Keep your scalp and neighboring areas clean all through the recovery phase. You may feel numbness and itching in the transplanted areas for a couple of weeks post-surgery. Avoiding picking and scratching your scalp. Use the medications as prescribed to alleviate these symptoms. Having that said, never try to self-treat yourself in any case. Your patience, vigilance, and cooperation will decide how effectively and quickly you recover from a hair transplant surgery. It generally takes anywhere between 8 months a year before the transplanted hair begins to grow normally.
