Onions are rich in sulfur content, a mineral necessary for maintaining hair health and enhancing hair growth. For centuries women have been using onion masks for faster hair growth and to regrow hair on bald crown patch.

Here is a list of some time tested onion masks to counter hair loss and speed up hair growth. Follow these recipes and see your hair growing even in bald patches.

Onion juice for bald patches:

The simplest and the easiest way to use this vegetable to counter hair loss is applying onion juice directly to the balding areas.  Take one medium-sized onion and peel it. Rub the onion on a coarse cheese grater and then squeeze it to separate the juice from the pulp. Discard the pulp and apply the juice to the bald areas. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash off with a mild shampoo and normal tap water.

Onion and egg yolk mask:

Fine chop one medium-sized onion. You can also rub it on a coarse grater or blend in a blender until you get a smooth paste. Add one egg yolk and 2 to 3 tablespoons of olive oil into it. Mix well and apply the mixture on dry hair, making sure the roots and scalp is thoroughly covered. Wrap your head in a plastic wrap followed by a towel, leave it on for 30 to 45 minutes and then rinse off with cool water and a mild shampoo. Repeat this recipe once in a week for a couple of months to see any improvement in the appearance of a bald crown patch.

Onion and coconut oil mask:

Both onion and coconut oil have amazing hair nourishing properties. Coconut oil, specifically is known for accelerating hair growth and nourishing the hair. Mix freshly squeezed onion juice and unprocessed coconut oil in equal proportions – depending on the length of your hair. Massage your scalp thoroughly with this mixture, paying special attention to the bald patches. Wrap your hair and head in a warm towel and wait for 25 to 30 minutes. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo and normal tap water. For best results, apply onion juice and coconut oil mixture twice a week.

Onion and honey mask:

This is considered as the most effective onion mask to regrow hair on bald crown patch. Blend or mash one medium-sized onion and add one tablespoon honey into it. Mix thoroughly and apply this mask to the scalp, focusing on the thinning or bald areas. Leave it on for at least half an hour and then rinse well using very little shampoo.

Onion and olive oil mask:

Blend onion and squeeze its juice. Discard the pulp and mix the juice with one tablespoon olive oil. Also, add in one tablespoon honey and mix thoroughly. Massage this mask gently into the scalp. If you wish to avoid the smell of onion, try not to apply the mask to the hair and stay confined to the roots and scalp. Wrap your head in a shower cap followed by a towel and wait for half an hour. After that, wash your head thoroughly with a mild shampoo and cool water. Repeat once in a week and you will be surprised by the results after a couple of months.

Onion and lemon juice mask:

This is probably best and the cheapest combo when it comes to treating dandruff. But herbalists believe that it is also very effective in treating hair thinning and bald patches. Squeeze juice from a medium sized onion by either rubbing it on a grater or chopping it finely. Mix the onion juice with one tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice. Apply this mixture to your scalp and roots and wait for 25 to 30 minutes. Wash off your head with cool water and let the hair air dry. For best results repeat once in 7 to 10 days.

Onion and yogurt mask:

Finely chop one medium-sized onion and add into it one tablespoon of yogurt. Apply this mask on your scalp and massage well. Wait for 30 to 45 minutes and then rinse thoroughly using cool water and your regular shampoo. Repeat twice a week for best results.

How to get rid of the smell of onion?

Onion has a peculiar smell that does not go away quickly. If you want to instantly remove the smell of onion, after washing your hair, rinse them with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. One tablespoon of cider vinegar is enough for one gallon.

But if you fail to regrow hair with them, you can always put your trust in hair transplant surgery – a guaranteed way of growing hair permanently.
