Effective Hair Loss Treatments for Women with Androgenic Alopecia

women with androgenic Alopecia

Both men and women shed hair, though some are susceptible to hair loss than the others. Men too are disturbed by loss of hair but women panic the most as they see their silky locks going down the drain, and their reaction is very much justified – after all thick, silky long hair is associated with youth and beauty. Women suffer from a variety of hair loss types, but the most common among them is Androgenic Alopecia, also known as Female Pattern Baldness.

If seeing a comb filled with your lovely locks or the shower drain clogged with a clump of hair is disturbing you as well then don’t fret. There is a wide range of hair loss treatments available to help you counter this disastrous cosmetic condition. Print and electronic media is filled with ads from doctors and clinics claiming to control hair loss within days. But you should not fall prey to these scams, as most of them are just waste of time and money. Here we will share with you some really effective treatments for women with Androgenic Alopecia.

Causes of Androgenic Alopecia:

Like any other problem, the first step towards effectively treating Androgenic Alopecia is to know the actual cause. There are several factors that can trigger hair loss in women, including genetics, hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiencies and fungal infections. But androgenic alopecia remains the most common cause of female hair loss, with over 40% of women suffering from pattern hair loss at some stage in their lives. This type of hair shedding is caused by a mix of genetics and hormones, and it runs in family. There are numerous other factors as well that can contribute to female pattern hair shedding, including ovarian cysts, pregnancy, menopause, hormone replacement therapy and intake of oral contraceptives.

Treatment for Androgenic Alopecia:

Like men, women also have a multitude of options available to treat pattern hair loss. These include topical applications, oral medicines, injection therapies and Hair Transplant surgery.

Medicines for female pattern baldness:

The most commonly prescribed medicine for androgenic alopecia in women is Minoxidil. This hair growth stimulant, available over the counter, comes in different strengths – 2%, 4% and 5% – but for women only 2% solution is recommended. Flutamide is another medicine for controlling female pattern baldness. It works by increasing estrogen levels in the body, and is therefore not recommended to men. These medicines have proven encouraging results, but only as long as a patient continues to use them. Once use of medicine is discontinued hair loss returns and the hair grown through medication also fall off. Besides that they also have some serious side effects, so research well and consult your doctor before using them.

Injection therapies:

If you wish to avoid unwanted side effects of hair loss medicines, injection therapies may be worth considering. Mesotherapy, PRP treatment and ACell/PRP Hair Loss treatment are some really effective injection therapies for treating hair loss in both men and women. Mesotherapy involves injecting a hair growing cocktail containing medicines, enzymes, growth factors, vitamins and other medicines into the scalp. PRP therapy, on the other hand, uses growth factors present in Platelet Rich Plasma, derived from the patient’s blood, to stop hair loss and trigger hair growth. In ACell/PRP hair loss treatment a mixture of PRP and ACell’s MatriStem is administered into the entire scalp to control activity of Dihydrotestosterone and stimulate robust hair growth.

Hair Transplant Surgery:

Injection therapies are mostly safe but their results are also temporary and you need to repeat the procedure every few months to retain the grown hair. If you have lost significant amount of hair, and you believe oral medicines or injection therapies are not effective enough to give you satisfaction, a hair transplant surgery may be worth considering. Healthy, baldness resistant hair follicles are extracted from one part of the scalp (the donor area) and implanted in the areas with significant hair thinning (the recipient area). Hair grown thrown transplantation is permanent and does not fall off under the effect of Dihydrotestosterone.
