Male-Pattern-Baldness-in-Women (2)

Hair loss or baldness is present in both men and women. The way it effects them is quite different. In men, baldness is a lot more pronounced and can take away the majority of the hair. In women, it rarely will cause completely bald patches and generally thinning of hair takes place. Androgenic Alopecia, generally known as the male pattern baldness is often to be blamed for hair loss in both men and women. It is also sometimes referred to as female pattern baldness in case of women. A significant 13% of women suffer from the condition at an early age. However, the numbers move up significantly in older women as 75% of women suffer from the condition at the age of 65.

So What Causes it?

One of the main culprits behind male pattern baldness is Hormone DHT. It is primarily a male hormone but it is present in very small quantities in women as well. It shrinks down the hair follicles which plays a significant role in the hair loss. It is mostly hereditary and genes play an important role in this condition. A person whose both or at least one parent has had the condition, is more likely to develop it at some point in time.

Ardogenic Alopecia can be triggered by a number of factors in women including menopause, certain birth control medications, ovarian cysts and pregnancy.

What is the Cure?

There is no complete cure for the condition but management can be done. Finasteride is an oral medication that has been fairly effective in controlling the male pattern baldness and has been associated with regrowth of hair as well in some cases. Since it has side effects, it should only be taken after a consultation with a doctor.

Minoxidil is another product that works well for male pattern baldness in women. Generally the 2% solution is recommended and needs to be massaged on the scalp one to two times a day. Although it is an over the country drug, it is best that a dermatologist is consulted before using it to ensure that it is right for you.

Management

Managing the conditions through some improved habits can help. Having a good diet with essential nutrients and vitamins is important. Cutting on the stress levels, sleeping well and exercising are also important. Using too many hair products too often is also a big no-no if you want to maintain good hair.
