How to Stop Thinning Hair around Crown or Vertex

crown and vertex hair thinning

Hair Thinning around crown or vertex is one of the few notable symptoms of Androgenic Alopecia, commonly known as male pattern baldness. Losing locks can be enormously stressful for both men and women, but studies have shown that the latter take more stress, because for them a thick, silky mane is a symbol of beauty and femininity. While men suffering from androgenic alopecia experience baldness in the crown area, female androgenic alopecia patients experience significant hair thinning around crown or vertex.

Here we will share with you how you can stop hair thinning around crown or vertex area.

Natural Remedies:

Most hair loss patients seek respite in natural remedies, for they are cheap and safe, free of harsh chemicals. Here are two easy yet highly effective home treatments to stop and reverse thinning in the crown area.

  • Coconut Oil: Coconut and its extract both have several amazing benefits for your locks. Not only it does promote hair growth but also nourishes and conditions it. The essential fats, proteins and minerals strengthen the tresses and reduce breakage and hair fall. Warm 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil on low flame or in microwave and apply it to your hair from roots to tip. Gently massage your scalp for 5-7 minutes and wait for an hour before you wash it off. Repeat thrice a week for best results.
  • Egg: Rich in protein, egg white can help fight hair loss and thinning around crown or vertex. It is also a rich source of sulfur, phosphorus and zinc, all of which are essential for healthy hair growth. Take one egg white and mix it with a teaspoon of olive oil. Beat with a hand whisk until you get a paste like consistency. Apply the paste to the entire scalp and locks. Leave it on for 20 to 25 minutes and then rinse off with cool water and mild shampoo. Repeat this remedy once every week.

These remedies are no doubt really effective but their effectiveness varies from person to person. Besides that, natural remedies need time and patience to deliver desired results.

Medicines

There are number of medicines and over the counter hair care products to prevent and stop hair loss. Minoxidil is an FDA approved hair growth stimulant recommended most commonly to women struggling with low crown density. It is a topical application that comes in varying strengths of 2%, 3% and 5%. Women are recommended only 2% strength. Regular use for 3 to 4 months is required to counter pattern baldness on the crown or vertex of the scalp.

Minoxidil does help regrow hair in thinning areas, but its results are temporary. You will start losing locks again as soon as you will discontinue use of medicine. Besides, it also has several temporary and permanent side effects.

Hair Transplant to restore hair density around crown or vertex:

If you have significant hair thinning on the crown or vertex of the scalp, a Crown hair transplant surgery may be worth considering. It will simply pluck healthy hair from the back of the scalp and plant them in the affected areas.
