Admit it or not, hair and self image go hand in hand. Whether you have long hair or short, if they are lacking shine and thickness, nobody is going to notice them. Besides that, brittle and fragile hairs also make you self conscious. If your hairs also feel dull and dry, worry not. There are numerous proven home remedies that you can try to get thicker and healthier hair. Listed below are 5 time tested recipes for bouncy, thick hair. Try them now and get the locks that you have always wished to have.
Protein Treatment with Eggs:
Regular protein treatment is necessary if you want bouncy, thick locks. Almost every beauty salon offers protein treatment but they are quite expensive and not everybody can afford them. An inexpensive and easy way of giving your hair a protein boost at home is to apply beaten egg on your hair regularly.
Take 2 or 3 eggs, depending on your hair length, and beat them thoroughly. Apply the beaten egg on your wet hair and leave it on for half an hour. Wash your hair with lukewarm water and mild shampoo. Repeat this remedy once or twice every month to see the results.
Coconut Oil Massage:
Coconut oil is rich in nutrients essential for hair growth. It contains lauric acid and capric acid, both of which help protects your hair against fungal infections. Coconut oil is also rich in vitamin A and essential fatty acids, which help lock the natural moisture of the hair besides providing them the right nutrition for healthy growth.
Take some lukewarm coconut oil and rub it between your palms to feel its warmth. Now apply this oil to your scalp and massage gently with your finger tips. Apply some oil on your hair strands as well and keep on massaging for a good 15 to 20 minutes. This will not only allow absorption of oil in the scalp but will also stimulate blood circulation, which is ultimately good for your hair follicles. Now take a clean towel and dip it in warm water – not hot water. Wring out excess water and wrap your hair in the towel, making sure it has covered your entire scalp. Leave the towel on for half an hour and then wash your hair with a mild shampoo and lukewarm water.
Repeat this twice or thrice a week for thicker and stronger hair.
One major cause of fragile hair is lack of essential nutrients. If you are not consuming a balanced diet, containing all the nutrients essential for your hair growth – such as protein, iron, vitamins, zinc, selenium, omega 3 fatty acids – your hair follicles will become weak overtime and eventually start falling out. While there is no alternative to oral consumption of essential nutrients, some ingredients help nourish your hair when applied directly to the hair, and honey is one of them. When applied directly to the hair, honey helps keep them hydrated and thus prevents them from breaking due to dryness.
Combine one tablespoon honey with half tablespoon olive oil or coconut oil and mix thoroughly to get a smooth paste. Add 1 tablespoon of dried sage leaves into it and then blend in half cup water. Mix it well. Apply this natural hair tonic to your scalp and massage for 5 to 10 minutes. Let it sit for 30 minutes and then wash off with some mild shampoo and warm water. Repeat this procedure once every week and see your hair becoming thick, strong and healthy within a few weeks.
Avocado Mask for Thick and Long Hair:
Avocado is a powerhouse of essential nutrients your body needs for healthy hair growth. It is a rich source of protein and various vitamins including vitamin A, D and E. It also contains biotin, magnesium, iron and amino acids. All these nutrients play a key role in nourishment and growth of hair.
Take one avocado, deseeded. Take its pulp and mash it properly. Mix it with one roughly beaten egg white. Mix two tablespoons of honey and a few drops of olive oil into it and mix thoroughly. Apply this mask to your hair and let it sit for half an hour. Now wash it off with your regular shampoo or an herbal shampoo if you have any. Repeat this once or twice a week and see the results.
Onion Juice for Thicker Head of Hair:
Onions are known for making tasty stews and salads but did you ever know they can also feed your hair. Yes, the high sulfur content in onion makes it an ideal home remedy to get thicker and healthier hair. Sulfur is a mineral that makes your hair stronger by increasing the blood circulation in the scalp, allowing maximum supply of nutrients to the hair follicles. It also helps stimulate collagen production in the scalp tissues, which also helps in hair growth.
Take 2 to 3 medium sized onions, based on the length of your hair. Peel them and cut in small cube. Then crush the onion cubes and squeeze them to get onion juice. Apply this freshly squeezed onion juice on your scalp and let it sit for 15 minutes then was off with a mild shampoo and cold water. Repeat this once or twice a week for a couple of months and feel the difference.
Note: Red onions have the highest sulfur content, so try to use them in this recipe.
